Description

Replica of the Grand Cross of the Iron Cross, the highest military award of the Kingdom of Prussia, and later the German Empire. It was worn around the neck attached to a wide black ribbon with two white stripes at the edges. A very good accurate copy made on industrial equipment, which distinguishes it from handicraft remelted copies. The cross is made in one piece.

Sign in the form of an equilateral Teutonic cross made of iron with a silver edging. Black field in the silver edging on the front side, in the center is the letter "W" (on behalf of the monarch Wilhelm), the royal crown is higher on the beam, the year of the recreation of the order "1914" is indicated on the lower beam.

On the reverse side there is a bas-relief in the form of an oak branch with four acorns. the letters "FW" are above  (German: Friedrich Wilhelm, in honor of the founder of the award, King Frederick William III). And the year of foundation of the order "1813" is indicated on the lower beam.

Cross size (without ring) 62 mm, ribbon length 35 cm, ribbon width 55 mm. Weight 50 g.

Grand Cross of the Iron Cross (German: Großkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes) is the highest military award received by major military leaders for winning a decisive battle. The order was being introduced only with a major military campaign:

  • 1813 war for freedom (Befreiungskrieg),
  • Franco-Prussian War 1870-1871,
  • First World War 1914-1918,
  • World War II 1939-1945.
