Historical reference.

Shoulder boards for the Red Army were introduced in January 1943. Two types of shoulder boards were used: everyday and field. Field shoulder boards were worn in the active army and in units being prepared to be sent to the front. Everyday shoulder boards were worn in other military establishments and with dress uniforms. In addition, there were differences in the shoulder boards of command staff.
