How to choose the size?
You receive a piece of ready-made badge (ribbon) 6 cm (60 mm) long, which allows you to form the standard length of the patch (43 mm) when sewing on.
Description
A badge for a serious wound. It is a rectangular patch with a length of 60 mm (a piece of textile tape). The base of the ribbon is khaki, the stripe color is golden yellow. Each wound is indicated by a specific color: for a light wound, the sign is red; for a severe wound, it is golden.
Historical reference.
The distinctive wound badge was approved by the Resolution of the State Defense Committee GOKO-2039 of July 14, 1942. This badge was intended for the Red Army soldiers of the command and political staff of the Red Army, wounded in battles for the Soviet Motherland against the German invaders. In connection with the "movement" of a number of orders and badges to the right side of the chest, the wound badges were given a more honorable place than the orders, approximately 8-10 mm above the awards. Without a doubt, when developing the design of the stripes, the system of distinctions for wounds introduced in the Russian Imperial Army in December 1916 was analyzed and rethought. While retaining the principle of using fabric stripes and their differentiation by color, the Soviet command abandoned the distinction by rank (title) of those awarded in favor of color determination of the severity of wounds. The size was also changed in similar proportions. It can be assumed that in difficult military conditions, the use of cheap soutache cord or tape (the production of which was mastered by industry) as a mass insignia seemed preferable to the establishment of a fundamentally new metal insignia. Photo chronicles of the war years and surviving uniform items indicate that many servicemen could wear 4-7 stripes for being wounded.
