The backpack was created as part of the marching equipment of the infantry units of the Red Army and issued from April 1936. Laundry, food, toiletry and gun accessories were stored and carried inside.
The haversack consists of a wooden frame sheathed with a tarpaulin and a lid covered with a green kersey (a type of artificial leather) so that it does not get wet. Leather straps with steel buckles, skin color brown. The satchel has shoulder straps with hooks, to cling them to the belt or cartridge bags. A mess-tin and rolled overcoat were carried outside attached to special loops on the lid and sides.
