We offer several options:
• ВД — Don Army. The patch is a shield (a rectangle with a round bottom) with a dark green background. The letters "VD" are placed in the center, made with a white thread. The shield is red and blue, which corresponds to the traditional colors of the Don Cossacks.
• ПСВ — A Regiment of The Siberian Army. The letters "PSV" are made with yellow thread. The contrasting combination of blue (light blue) and golden colors is characteristic of the signs of the Siberian Cossack units.
• КВ — Kuban Army. The letters "KV" are made of white thread. The red and black colors reflect the traditional colors of the Kuban Cossacks uniform.
• ТВ — Tersk Army. The letters "TV" are white. The shield is black and blue (light blue). The blue color is traditionally associated with the Terek Cossacks.
Woven BeVo technology, color background, high detail of weaving. These patches are modern replicas of historical insignia and are intended exclusively for collection, reconstruction, and museum and exhibition purposes.
How to sew the shield? There are 2 ways.
I. Method for museum copies. Remove threads from the wrong side of the insignia using the scissors or razor to make it thinner. Trim the excess along the contour of the insignia with a margin of 5 mm. The contour is the edge of the green shield. Tuck these 5 mm under the insignia and iron (you may use glue). Fasten the insignia on the clothes with a few stitches of threads of bright color, so it sits smoothly. Sew the stripe along the contour with small stitches (seam around the edge). Remove the bright thread that fixed the insignia.
II. Way to for reenactment (easier). Glue the patch onto thin paper or fabric using tailor's glue or PVA. Dry it using an iron (if the glue is liquid then you should use as little glue as possible, otherwise it can leak on the front side). Cut the patch along the contour with no margin. Fasten the stripe on the clothes with a few stitches of threads of bright color, so it sits smoothly. Sew the stripe along the contour with small stitches (seam around the edge). Remove the bright thread that fixed the insignia.
Historical reference.
Copies of the armbands of Cossack units that served in the 1st Cossack Division of the Wehrmacht and later the XV Cossack Cavalry Corps are presented. The letter designations indicated that the serviceman belonged to a certain Cossack army.
The abbreviations VD, KV, TV, and PSV corresponded to the designations of the Cossack troops on the corps' armbands: the Don Army, the Kuban Army, the Tersk Army, and the Siberian Army Regiment. The signs themselves were introduced to identify Cossacks of different troops in the German Cossack formations.
- VD — "Don Army" Patch of the Don Cossacks. It was used by the personnel of the Don regiments of the corps. The Don units formed a significant part of the Cossack formations of General Helmut von Pannwitz. In May 1945, most of the corps' soldiers surrendered to British forces and were subsequently extradited to the USSR.
- PSV — "Regiment of the Siberian Army" Patch of the Siberian Cossacks. It was used by servicemen of the Siberian Cossack regiment. The unit was part of the Wehrmacht's Cossack formations and shared the fate of the rest of the corps after being captured by the British at the end of the war.
- KV — "Kuban Army" Patch of the Kuban Cossacks. It was used in the Kuban regiments of the 1st and 2nd Cossack Divisions. Kuban units actively participated in anti-partisan operations in the Balkans. After the German surrender, most of the personnel were repatriated to the USSR.
- TV — "Tersk Army" Patch of the Tersk Cossacks. It was worn by military personnel of the Terek units of the corps. The Terek Cossacks were part of cavalry regiments and operated mainly on the territory of Yugoslavia. At the end of the war, they suffered the same fate as the rest of the Cossack corps formations.
